The MAIA – European Master in Medical Image Analysis is a prestigious two-year, full-time Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programme designed to educate the next generation of specialists in medical imaging, artificial intelligence and learning-based medical robotics. Coordinated by the University of Girona (Spain), the programme is jointly delivered with Université de Bourgogne Europe (France) and Università degli Studi di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (Italy). The programme comprises 120 ECTS and provides students with an international academic experience involving study and mobility across participating European universities. MAIA combines advanced technical education with clinical relevance and responsible artificial intelligence. The curriculum covers medical imaging physics, programming, image processing, machine learning, deep learning, robotic perception, multimodal medical imaging, AI-enabled medical technologies, validation of medical AI systems, and ethical and regulatory aspects of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The MAIA consortium has received renewed Erasmus Mundus funding for the 2027–2029 edition, with the next cohort expected to begin studies in September 2027. Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients receive financial support covering student participation costs and a subsistence allowance of €1,400 per month for the duration of the programme. The programme is particularly suitable for graduates in computer science, informatics engineering and related engineering or scientific disciplines who want to develop advanced expertise at the intersection of artificial intelligence, medical imaging and healthcare technology. Applicants should carefully review the official MAIA website before applying because final application dates and detailed requirements for the 2027 intake are being updated by the consortium.
